The 7th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) took place in Algeria, featuring 17 participating nations.

In addition to Algeria (the host country), 16 other teams competed in the tournament, namely Algeria, Mali, Cameroon, DR Congo, Congo, Libya, Uganda, Angola, Sudan, Niger, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Ethiopia, Senegal, Ghana, Mozambique, and Madagascar.

Senegal pulls off a sensation

The Lions clinched the 8th edition of CHAN thanks to their victory in the final against Algeria, winning 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regular time.

In the quarterfinals and semifinals, Senegal edged past Mauritania and Madagascar respectively, each time by the narrowest of margins.

During the group stage, they notched up two wins—beating Ivory Coast 1-0 and DR Congo 3-0—while suffering a single defeat to Uganda, 1-0.
