South African coach Rulani Mokwena is on the verge of beginning a new chapter in his managerial career after bringing his short-lived spell at Libyan club Al-Ittihad to an unexpected end.

The 39-year-old resigned from his position after just five months in charge with the club's management accepting his departure by mutual consent, according to multiple media reports.

Despite substantial backing in the transfer market, where Al-Ittihad reportedly spent more than $9 million on new signings, the former Mamelodi Sundowns manager failed to deliver any major silverware.

Mokwena Closing In on Pyramids FC Job

Mokwena is now expected to take over at Pyramids FC with negotiations between the two parties understood to be in their final stages.

According to Egyptian outlet Yallakora, an agreement has been reached on nearly all contractual terms, while the South African tactician is expected to arrive in Cairo in the coming hours to complete the formalities.

Should the move be finalized, Mokwena will sign a one-year contract and lead the Egyptian champions in the Egyptian Premier League, the CAF Champions League and the Egypt Cup during the 2026/27 season.
