Argentina 7-0 Burkina Faso: the Stallions U23s are back in Ouagadougou
Called up as reinforcements after the senior team refused to travel to Buenos Aires, the Stallions U23s returned to Ouagadougou on Monday, October 5, after their heavy 0-7 friendly defeat to Argentina.
An official welcome in Ouagadougou
Returning from Buenos Aires on Monday, the Stallions U23s were welcomed at Ouagadougou International Airport by a government delegation led by the Minister of Sports, accompanied by the Minister-Secretary-General of the Government, Ambassador for Sport Charles KABORÉ and the president of the FBF, Colonel Oumarou SAWADOGO.
U23s called in to the rescue
The context was unusual. After two missed flights, the senior Stallions refused to travel to Argentina. To save the match and avoid FIFA sanctions, the federation called up the U23s, who were in camp preparing for the qualifiers for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the 0-7 defeat to La Albiceleste, the government hailed the act of patriotism. « We are proud of you. You have taken a historic step. Beyond the scoreline, we see a victory because we were able to rise to the challenge. We kept our word », the Minister said.
