Argentina: Lionel Messi’s moving final message

After making the difference with a goal and two assists against Benin, Lionel Messi delivered a deeply moving message as he said farewell to Argentina.

Lionel Messi has definitively closed a monumental chapter of his international career. In his final match for Argentina, the Albiceleste captain once again made the difference in the 3-0 victory over Benin, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

A few hours after his final appearance in the national team shirt, Messi published a lengthy message on social media. The Argentine forward reflected on his journey, his loved ones, his teammates, his coaches, Diego Maradona and everyone who accompanied him throughout his time with the national team.

Lionel Messi’s full message

“Yesterday was my last match, and I already miss wearing the Argentina shirt. I know I’m making the right decision. It has been an incredible journey, filled with joy and also some sadness, but every step was worth it.

There is still so much I want to say. It’s impossible to express everything I feel in a few words or in a post.

This journey would have been impossible without my family, who have always been by my side and supported me, especially in difficult moments, when I needed it most. 🙏

My friends, all my teammates, my coaches and their staffs were also indispensable.

I don’t want to forget Diego, who put our country where it deserved to be. I know he helped us when he was with us, and then from the sky, at every step.

Thank you to the clubs I played for, for always respecting my feelings and allowing me to devote myself to my country whenever it was time to put on the national team shirt.

And of course, thank you to God: without his guidance and his will, we could not even dream of making it this far.

I love you all immensely. I will miss you, and I will always be grateful to you for having been by our side, by my side. 🩵🤍”

A final appearance worthy of him

For his farewell, Messi did not simply take part in Argentina’s victory: he was one of its main architects. His goal and two assists accompanied a successful final evening, serving as a summary of the influence he exerted for more than two decades with the Albiceleste. Messi leaves the national team having notably won the World Cup and the Copa América, definitively transforming his legacy with his country.

Messi turns the page on Argentina

Above all, his message confirms that there will be no going back. The player stressed that he believes he has made “the right decision”, while acknowledging that he already misses the Argentina shirt.

After an international career marked by criticism, failures and then the greatest titles, Lionel Messi leaves the Albiceleste after one final decisive performance and a particularly powerful farewell message.
