FIFA ranking: New African top 10 revealed

FIFA published its ranking on 7 October 2026: Morocco still leads Africa, ahead of Senegal, Egypt and Algeria.

The African hierarchy has seen several changes following the latest international window. In the FIFA ranking officially updated on 7 October 2026, Morocco retains first place on the continent despite dropping in the world ranking.

The Atlas Lions now occupy 7th place in the world with 1,805.34 points. They remain well clear of Senegal, 18th in the world with 1,648.84 points, while Egypt completes the African podium in 25th place worldwide.

Algeria remain fourth in Africa and climb one place

Algeria retain 4th place in Africa but move up one spot in the world ranking. The Greens are now 28th with 1,574.77 points, following an international window marked by a win over Zambia, a draw against Burundi and a friendly victory over Niger.

Just behind them, Côte d’Ivoire climb two places to reach 29th in the world with 1,569.32 points. Nigeria, however, suffered the biggest drop among the leading African teams: the Super Eagles fell four places and now occupy 30th in the world.

Mali and South Africa climb six places

The biggest gains in the African top 10 belong to Mali and South Africa. Both national teams climb six places. The Malian Eagles rise to 47th in the world with 1,474.14 points, just ahead of Bafana Bafana, who are 48th with 1,468.88 points.

DR Congo also move up one place to 40th in the world, while Cameroon climb one spot to reach 42nd. The provisional ranking published a few days earlier had already indicated several of these changes, before FIFA’s official confirmation.

The next FIFA ranking will be published on 18 November

The next official update of the men’s world ranking is scheduled for 18 November 2026. It will come after the next international window, during which several African national teams will play the third and fourth rounds of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

These matches could further narrow the gaps, particularly between Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria, who are separated by fewer than seven points in this new hierarchy.
