Arsenal officially extend Mikel Arteta's contract!
Arsenal have officially extended Mikel Arteta’s contract until 2030, rewarding a period marked by the club’s return to the top.
Stability remains the watchword at Arsenal. Having taken charge in December 2019, Mikel Arteta has officially extended his contract with the Gunners until June 2030. His previous deal was due to expire at the end of the 2026/2027 season.
The announcement had been expected for several weeks. An agreement between Arteta and Arsenal had already been reached at the end of September, before the London club officially finalised this new long-term contract.
Arsenal reward their return to the top
The extension comes after a historic 2025/2026 season. Arteta led Arsenal to their 14th English league title, their first since 2004, ending a 22-year wait in the Premier League. The Gunners also reached a Champions League final for the first time since 2006, before losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
“It is an honour for me to commit my future to this club and to continue working with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” Arteta said. The Spaniard also emphasised the bond built with the supporters and his belief that “this is only the beginning” of what the group can still achieve.
361 matches and several trophies since 2019
A former Arsenal player between 2011 and 2016, Arteta returned to London as head coach three years later. Since his appointment, he has managed 361 matches and gradually rebuilt a team capable of competing again for the biggest titles.
His honours as a manager now include one Premier League title, one FA Cup and three Community Shields, including the one won this year against Manchester City (3-0). The 2026 league title nevertheless remains the major achievement of his tenure.
A new cycle already under way
The current season confirms that expectations remain high. Arsenal currently sit second in the Premier League with 12 points, three points behind Manchester City after five matchdays. However, the heavy 3-0 defeat to Brighton before the international break serves as a reminder that the balance remains fragile.
Owners Stan and Josh Kroenke have reaffirmed their complete confidence in their manager, believing that last season’s success should serve as the starting point for an even more ambitious period. Arsenal will return to league action on Saturday with the visit of Leeds United, Arteta’s first fixture since the official announcement of his contract extension.
