Arthur Okonkwo: the Nigerian has two Championship options

Arthur Okonkwo could be on the move before the transfer window closes. The Wrexham goalkeeper has attracted interest from Derby County and Charlton Athletic, with initial inquiries already made about a potential deal.

According to Alan Nixon, Charlton have taken the first steps to find out the conditions for signing the 24-year-old shot-stopper. Derby County are also monitoring his situation and could make a move if the club decides a new goalkeeper is needed.

Okonkwo, for his part, is keen to go out on loan before the end of the transfer window. His goal is clear: secure a starting spot in the Championship after losing his place at Wrexham in recent weeks.

Salary the main stumbling block

However, the deal remains difficult to finalize due to the Nigerian’s wages. Arthur Okonkwo reportedly earns around £1 million a year—about £83,000 per month. Any interested club would likely have to negotiate with Wrexham to cover a portion of his salary.

The player's sporting situation has also become more complicated with the arrival of Anthony Patterson, while Danny Ward is still in the squad. Former Arsenal man Okonkwo joined Wrexham in July 2024 and is under contract until 2027.
