Atlético Madrid: Ademola Lookman opens his Champions League account
Ademola Lookman scored his first goal in the Champions League in the colors of Atlético de Madrid. The Nigerian striker scored in the 79th minute against Manchester United on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during the second matchday of the league phase.
This goal allows Lookman to open his account in the competition with the Madrid club. Having joined Atlético in 2026 after shining with Atalanta, the Nigerian continues to adapt to the Spanish league and the European stage.
Atalanta, the club where he broke through
It was in Italy that Lookman took a decisive step forward in his career. Signed by Atalanta in 2022, he gradually established himself as a key figure in the Bergamo side’s attack.
On May 22, 2024, he made his mark by scoring a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen. Thanks to this performance, Atalanta won 3-0 and lifted the first European trophy in its history.
His performances earned him another accolade a few months later. In December 2024, he won the African Ballon d’Or, awarded to the best African player of the year.
A new chapter in Madrid
By joining Atlético de Madrid in 2026, Lookman took on a new challenge. Under the guidance of Diego Simeone, the Nigerian international must confirm the qualities that made him one of Serie A’s most feared forwards.
His first Champions League goal with the Madrid club marks a new stage in this adventure. The objective now will be to string together decisive performances, both in the league and in European competition.
