Atlético Madrid: the dressing room sets a condition for Julián Álvarez
Still eager to leave, Julián Álvarez retains the support of the dressing room, but they expect him to apologize to the Atlético supporters.
The Atlético de Madrid dressing room has not turned its back on Julián Álvarez, despite his desire to leave the club expressed during the World Cup. According to Cadena SER, his teammates still consider him a key figure in the squad and want to maintain a positive atmosphere around him.
However, this support is not unconditional. The players believe the striker needs to take responsibility for his statements and issue an apology to the fans. Such a gesture would help ease tensions ahead of the restart and begin to rebuild trust with the Madrid faithful.
A meeting lasting over three hours
According to Carlos Monfort, Álvarez recently held a meeting lasting over three hours with his representatives to discuss the next steps regarding his future. Those close to him know that a departure remains complicated, but they want to be heard by Atlético's management.
Last season, the Argentine made 49 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 9 assists across all competitions. In La Liga, he netted 8 goals in 29 matches, while scoring 10 times in 15 Champions League outings. Under contract until 2030, his market value is currently estimated at €120 million.
