Van Hecke suffers injury with the Netherlands

Netherlands defender Jan Paul van Hecke has been forced to pull out of the national team squad due to an injury, and he will now head back to Tottenham for further evaluation. The centre-back joined Wednesday's final training session in Zeist but had to stop after roughly seven minutes, exchanging a few words with head coach Xavi Hernández before walking off the pitch.

A later statement from the Dutch team confirmed that Van Hecke will not make the trip to Thessaloniki for the Nations League clash with Greece. The defender originally picked up the problem during the previous away fixture against Serbia, and he has now been sent back to his club for treatment.

As a result, Van Hecke is expected to sit out both the meeting with Greece and the subsequent Nations League match against Serbia. The precise nature and seriousness of the injury remain unclear, leaving Tottenham awaiting the outcome of further medical tests.
