Officially: Chris Smalling signs with FC Porto

Press reports—most notably those from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano—have confirmed that Chris Smalling has signed with Porto following his stint with Al-Fayha in the Saudi Pro League.

A formal agreement has been reached with Porto regarding the details of the contract

Porto have finalized a deal to bring in the 36-year-old English center-back on a free transfer. The agreement is regarded as complete, and Smalling has already begun his medical examination before the move is made official.

The Portuguese media outlet Zerozero has likewise stated that the former Manchester United defender is already in Portugal to put pen to paper with the Dragons. Because his previous contract has run out, Porto are permitted to finalize the signing outside the standard transfer window.

Smalling has been a free agent since July 1, 2026, when his deal with the Saudi club Al-Fayha came to an end. His proposed arrival would bring significant experience to Porto's defensive lineup.
