Ballon d'or 2026: French government gives green light for Kylian Mbappé

Even though Kylian Mbappé hasn't secured any team titles this year, the French star has thrust himself into the race for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

This is largely thanks to finishing as the top scorer in La Liga, the Champions League, and the 2026 World Cup. Speaking on Sud Radio this Thursday, French Minister of Sports Marina Ferrari suggested that an award for the Real Madrid striker would make sense.

"Why not? In any case, I think it would be great for him and for his career because, as you rightly pointed out, his track record speaks for itself. He shone throughout this World Cup, despite, I must say, all the disgraceful attacks he was subjected to. I want to once again denounce everything that happened, because there is no place for that in sport. He wasn't the only one, by the way," said the minister.
