Fermín López has clearly chosen his favorite for the next Ballon d’Or. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the FC Barcelona midfielder believes his teammate Lamine Yamal deserves to win the prestigious award, despite competition from several Spanish players.

Asked which Spanish player he would choose for the Ballon d’Or, Fermín López had no hesitation in naming Lamine Yamal. The Barcelona midfielder particularly highlighted the season his young teammate has had with Barça.

There are so many Spaniards who deserve it, but if I had to choose one player, I would choose Yamal. Yamal is a fantastic player and he had a fantastic year with Barcelona.

Fermín López nevertheless acknowledges that the winger was unable to perform at his best during the World Cup because he was returning from injury:

Maybe he wasn’t able to show his best version during the World Cup because he was coming back from injury, but in the end he won the title and I think he deserves this award.

The next Ballon d’Or will be awarded on October 26. Lamine Yamal and Rodri are both among the players nominated for this edition. The Spanish midfielder won the award last year. This time, Fermín López therefore hopes to see his FC Barcelona teammate succeed him.
