Ballon d’Or: Lamine Yamal puts himself alongside Mbappé among the best and claims the award
Lamine Yamal is making no secret of his Ballon d’Or ambitions. Speaking to Movistar, the FC Barcelona forward said he believes he deserves the award this year based on the titles he won last season, and placed Kylian Mbappé alongside him among the best players in the world.
“Honestly, I think that when it comes to being the best player in the world, there may be two of us. And I think I would deserve it this year, for everything I have won,” the Spanish international said.
Yamal directly named Mbappé when asked to identify the two best players in the world in his view.
“For me, the two best players in the world are me and Mbappé. It’s as clear as that,” he said.

The young Barcelona player is basing his Ballon d’Or case on the achievements he made with his club last season. He believes the titles he won should be taken into account when choosing the next winner.
“I think I also deserve this Ballon d’Or because of the titles I won and achieved last season. That’s my view,” he told Movistar.
Yamal’s statement puts him firmly in the Ballon d’Or conversation. Unlike Ousmane Dembélé, who has preferred to remain reserved when asked about his ambitions, the Barcelona forward has made his position clear: he believes he has done enough to contend for the award and considers Mbappé his main rival.
