FC Barcelona want to secure Gerard Martín’s future. According to Marca journalist Matteo Moretto, the Catalan club are working on a contract extension for the Spanish defender, who has gradually become an important member of the squad.

Martín becomes increasingly important

At 24, Gerard Martín has reached a new level at Barça. Last season, the defender made 51 appearances in all competitions, providing one assist. His importance was also confirmed at the start of this season. After seven matchdays in La Liga, Martín has featured in six matches, including five as a starter. The player is currently under contract with FC Barcelona until summer 2028.

The club’s interest in Martín is part of a broader strategy aimed at securing several members of the squad. Fabrizio Romano notably reports that Barça plan to extend Raphinha’s contract until 2030, before moving on to Xavi Espart and Marc Bernal. For Gerard Martín, discussions must therefore progress further before a definitive agreement can be reached
