Barcelona continue to monitor Ruud Nijstad
FC Barcelona have not lost sight of Ruud Nijstad. The 18-year-old Dutch centre-back continues to develop with FC Twente and is still reportedly among the players being closely monitored by the Catalan club.
Nijstad establishes himself at Twente
Promoted to Twente’s senior squad last season, Ruud Nijstad quickly earned playing time. In his first season in the Eredivisie, the defender made 21 appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
This season, his status has developed further. Nijstad has established himself in Twente’s starting XI and has already scored once in 11 matches in all competitions. A Netherlands U21 international, the young defender is therefore continuing his rise at a particularly rapid pace.
Barcelona remain interested
Already linked with FC Barcelona and Chelsea last spring, Nijstad continues to attract the attention of major European clubs. According to Fabrizio Romano, Barça are still closely monitoring the defender’s situation. The Catalan interest, with the club currently top of La Liga, is even reportedly considered concrete, with the club regularly monitoring his performances for Twente.
This interest reflects Barça’s desire to identify at an early stage young talents capable of establishing themselves at the highest level. Despite the Catalan club’s interest, Nijstad remains tied to Twente until June 2029. The Dutch club therefore still holds a comfortable position in negotiating a potential departure.
