Belgium: Kevin De Bruyne explains why he has delayed his international retirement

While Lionel Messi has already decided to end his international career with Argentina, Kevin De Bruyne still intends to continue playing for Belgium for a few more years. The former Manchester City player stands by his decision.

Despite the passing years, Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (35, 124 caps and 38 goals) has decided to continue his international career after the 2026 World Cup. He was even called up by manager Mark van Bommel for this September international window. The Napoli player explained his decision to continue his journey with the Red Devils.

"The manager asked me what I wanted to do. What my feelings were after the World Cup. I had seen a lot of energy within the national team. I spoke with the players. They also asked me what I wanted to do. Many of them told me to stay. That made me want to still be here. Of course, I also spoke with the coach. I also told him that I was coming to help him. It changes my role a little. The others need to take a little more responsibility," the Belgian told the media on Tuesday.
