Orlando Pirates secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United in a Betway Premiership encounter staged at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday night.

The defending champions made their intentions clear from the onset as defender Sbangani Zulu was denied from close range by goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi in the fourth minute.

Pirates survived a nervy moment as the visitors failed to pounce on a scramble in the Bucs box in the 19th minute, before Daniel Msendami saw his left-footed effort saved by Buthelezi 10 minutes later.

Abdeslam Ouaddou's men eventually broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, thanks to Boitumelo Radiopane, who beat Buthelezi at the farpost after standing tall against Tshepo Matsimbi, for a 1-0 lead at the break.

Babina Noko looked to restore parity in the second stanza, with newly signed Mokibelo Ramabu heading wide from inside the box in the 55th minute after a miscommunication between Lebone Seema and Zulu.

The Buccaneers, however, doubled their lead through Oswin Appollis, who was the recipient of a cut-back pass from Radiopane, calmly slotting home into an empty net two minutes after the hour mark.

Pirates shot-stopper Sipho Chaine made two crucial saves in stoppage time, which saw the Sea Robbers claim maximum points accompanied by a third clean sheet of the 2026/27 campaign.

Ouaddou's troops remain at the summit of the Betway Premiership table and are now three points clear, having accumulated 10 points in their opening four league outings.

The Soweto giants return to action with the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final clash against Sekhukhune at the same venue on Saturday, 29 August, having won the first meeting 1-0.
