Sekhukhune United assistant coach Paulos Masehe has explained why head coach Cedric Kaze was sent off in their Betway Premiership defeat to Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday night.

Babina Noko succumbed to goals from Boitumelo Radiopane and Oswin Appollis in either half, making it back-to-back defeats against the Buccaneers, having also lost in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final over the weekend.

The encounter, however, was somewhat marred by the dismissal of Kaze in the closing stages, with Masehe stating the decision was a misunderstanding rather than misconduct from the Burundian tactician.

“As to what happened on the bench for our coach to get a red card, it was just a moment of misunderstanding between the fourth official [Akhona Makalima] and the ref [Philangenkosi Khumalo]," said the Sekhukhune second in command.

"This is because the honest question that our coach asked was that, ‘Why are you taking so long [to prepare the substitution board]?'.

"But from whatsoever frustration from the fourth official, she ended up telling the referee the coach is using uncalled-for language.

Kaze is now expected to miss the crucial return leg of their MTN8 semi-final clash against Pirates at the Arena on Saturday, with Masehe and Papi Zothwane in line to steer the ship in his absence in the dugout.

Whether the Limpopo club will appeal the decision remains to be seen as they look to overturn the cup semi-final deficit in a bid to reach their first-ever final in the MTN8.
