Brazil: Romário calls for the immediate dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti
The pressure is mounting around Carlo Ancelotti. The day after Brazil's elimination by Norway in the Round of 16 at the World Cup, former Brazilian international Romário has demanded the immediate departure of the Italian coach.
Romário is not mincing his words. He is adamant and wants Carlo Ancelotti out. Speaking on Romário TV, the 1994 World Cup champion was especially scathing towards the current Seleção manager, deeming his continued presence at the helm of the national team impossible after such a disappointment.
“He cannot continue as Brazil’s head coach, there is absolutely no reason. If I were in charge of the CBF, I would have gone into the locker room, told him to get lost, and I would have torn up his contract on the spot. The match against Norway was a disgrace. I’d even go so far as to drag him to court. We’ll see what happens next, but he cannot stay,” declared the former striker.
These remarks are far from isolated. They reflect the deep disappointment that now grips Brazil after this early exit. But only the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) can decide whether to keep faith in Carlo Ancelotti or consider making a change on the Seleção’s bench.
