Press reports have revealed that Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is currently under investigation regarding matters related to Ligue 1 broadcasting rights in France.

The unlawful matter that led to Nasser Al-Khelaifi being questioned involves a potential conflict of interest regarding broadcasting rights involving the media giant beIN Sports.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi and beIN Sports reject the allegation

According to a source familiar with the situation, Al-Khelaifi had stepped away from nearly all LFP board meetings over the previous year and had stayed clear of any gatherings dealing with matters connected to beIN.

In a February letter to the French Football Federation's National Ethics and Deontology Council, which was seen by Reuters, beIN maintained that although Al-Khelaifi holds the position of chairman at beIN Media Group, he carries no operational or executive duties within the group or beIN Sports France — those, the letter stressed, fall to group CEO Yousef Al-Obaidly.

Potential consequences if proven

Such allegations against Nasser Al-Khelaifi could carry serious consequences if they gain traction or are proven. Legally, he might face investigations by French authorities and sporting bodies like the LFP, potentially leading to sanctions or even prosecution.

Professionally, his reputation as PSG president could suffer, weakening his negotiating power and inviting pressure from rival clubs demanding governance reforms. Commercially, beIN Sports could see its image damaged, complicating broadcast rights deals and sponsorship trust. Personally, he would endure intense media scrutiny. His defence rests on recusing himself from beIN-related LFP meetings and holding no executive role at beIN, which could soften the impact if accepted.
