Bundesliga: Francis Onyeka extends contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2032

Francis Onyeka has officially extended his contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen until 2032. At the same time, the 19-year-old midfielder will continue his development on loan for the upcoming season with newly promoted SV Elversberg, without a purchase option.

After making a name for himself during a standout spell with VfL Bochum in the 2. Bundesliga, where he racked up goals and significant minutes, Onyeka is now seen as one of German football’s brightest prospects. His box-to-box midfield profile, with the ability to play up front, also caught the attention of SC Freiburg, but Leverkusen closed the door on any permanent move.

Bayer’s sporting management views this loan as a crucial step in his development. The aim is to give him more top-flight game time to prepare him for future integration into the first team squad.

According to club officials, Onyeka remains a central part of the long-term project, with a potential permanent place in the squad by 2027 or after another stage of development. The player himself will have the chance to confirm his status as a rising Bundesliga star. An important milestone awaits.
