CAF Awards 2026: Lagos to host the ceremony
Nigeria reaffirms its return to the forefront of African football by hosting the prestigious CAF Awards ceremony alongside the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Lagos will host the 2026 CAF Awards. The gala, which honors the top individual achievements in African football, will be held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, officially designated as the event venue.
This announcement cements Nigeria's role in staging major African football events. The country will also host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, bringing together leaders from the 54 member associations of the continental body.
A flagship event for African football
The CAF Awards annually celebrate the best in African football. Honors include African Player of the Year, African Women’s Player of the Year, best coaches, goalkeepers, young talents, clubs, and national teams.
The ceremony gathers the most prominent figures in African football: federation officials, coaches, legendary players, and key personalities from the sports world. It is also a significant international showcase for the host nation.
Nigeria strengthens its status on the continental stage
By choosing Lagos, CAF is banking on a metropolis renowned for its infrastructure and proven ability to host major international events. The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, named after Africa's first Nobel laureate in literature, will provide the setting for the 2026 edition.
Hosting both the CAF Awards and the General Assembly further solidifies Nigeria's place among the heavyweights of African football and demonstrates CAF's trust in the country for its institutional events.
