Cagliari: Yael Trepy wakes up from coma
Good news for Yael Trepy. After suffering a serious accident in a swimming pool in Porto Cervo, the young Cagliari striker has been brought out of his induced coma and is now breathing on his own.
A scare after a swimming pool accident
Yael Trepy, 20, was rushed to hospital after nearly drowning. The player had dived into a pool but, lacking strong swimming skills, was unable to get back to the surface properly.
After swallowing a large amount of water, he was airlifted to hospital and placed in a medically induced coma due to the severity of his condition. Doctors were particularly worried about possible neurological damage.
Now encouraging progress
The situation has fortunately improved. The president of Cagliari, Tommaso Giulini, announced that Trepy has been awakened and is gradually regaining consciousness. The young striker is now breathing independently and his condition is improving. He could soon be discharged from hospital before beginning a period of rehabilitation.
Trepy made his Serie A debut last season and scored in his very first appearance against Cremonese. He was also in the starting lineup for Cagliari’s victory over Arezzo in the Coppa Italia this season. For Cagliari and their fans, this progress is already a huge relief.
