CAN 2025: 12 goals... Nigeria matches its record from the 2000 edition

Nothing can stop the Super Eagles! Eric Chelle's men cruised past Mozambique with a commanding 4-0 victory on Monday night to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria's attacking force—powered by the trio of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Akor Adams—struck again, leaving their opponents reeling. With these four goals, Nigeria now boasts a total of 12 goals in just four matches.

Two against Tanzania, three versus Tunisia, three against Uganda, and now four past Mozambique... that's 12 goals in total for Nigeria. The three-time African champions (1980, 1994, and 2013) have equaled their all-time single tournament scoring record, first set back in 2000.

At AFCON 2000, held in Ghana, Nigeria also netted 12 goals throughout the tournament, which ended in heartbreak with a penalty shootout defeat to Cameroon in the final (2-2, 3-4 on penalties).

In the quarter-finals, facing the winner between Algeria and DR Congo, Nigeria will have the chance to break its single-edition scoring record.
