Can 64 goals win the Ballon d'Or? Luis Díaz makes the case for Harry Kane

Bayern Munich forward Luis Díaz has publicly backed his attacking partner Harry Kane to win the 2026 Ballon d'Or following an extraordinary 64 goal campaign, speaking in an interview with Sky.

Diaz's endorsement on Sky

Speaking to the German network, the Colombian international insisted that Kane’s consistency and decisive output in front of goal make him the outstanding candidate for the sport's most prestigious individual award.

"For me, Harry has to be the winner... Because he is also one of the best players in the world and he has shown that for a long time and last season for him was incredible" Díaz said on Sky.

A Record-Breaking 64 goal campaign

Kane produced one of the most prolific individual campaigns of his career last season, finding the net 64 times in 56 appearances across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League for Bayern Munich.

His domestic and continental return earned him the European Golden Shoe as the top goalscorer across European leagues.

On the international stage, the Bayern forward also captained the England national team to a third place finish at the recent World Cup, cementing an exceptional year across both club and international football.

Kane's candidacy in a crowded field

Díaz's public backing highlights the strength of Kane's case as voting draws to a close. While Kane's sheer volume of 64 goal provides him with the strongest statistical foundation among the nominees, he faces stiff competition from a competitive field.

His primary rivals include titleholder Ousmane Dembélé of Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé and FC Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal.
