Canada has qualified for the Round of 16 of the World Cup for the first time in its history. The Canucks defeated South Africa 1-0 this Sunday in the Round of 16, thanks to a late goal from Stephen Eustaquio.

Given the historical significance of this clash for both teams, the match remained tightly contested for a long period. But the South African defense finally crumbled in stoppage time after a powerful strike from Stephen Eustaquio. Until that moment, Bafana Bafana, led by Ronwen Williams, had held firm.

The momentum of the match shifted after Alphonso Davies came on. In his first minutes of this World Cup, the Canadian star injected new energy into his team with his blistering runs.

Jesse Marsch's men have reached the Round of 16 for the first time in their history.
As for Bafana Bafana, their adventure ends here.

It was a tough start with a 2-0 defeat to Mexico. Then, the South Africans bounced back with a 1-1 draw against Czechoslovakia, before sealing qualification with a remarkable 1-0 victory over group leaders Korea.
