Carlos Kameni joins Haiti national team coaching staff

Idriss Carlos Kameni is continuing his transition into coaching. The former Indomitable Lions goalkeeper has been appointed goalkeeper coach of Haiti’s national team, joining the staff led by Spanish coach David Badia.

At 42, the Cameroonian is opening a new chapter in his career in technical management. After working with the Cameroon national team from 2024, Kameni joins the Grenadiers with the mission of supporting their goalkeepers and putting his top-level experience at the service of Haiti’s new project.

First international experience as a goalkeeper coach

Kameni is already familiar with the demands of a national-team staff. He joined the Indomitable Lions’ technical staff in May 2024 to work with the goalkeepers, a role he held for more than two years. His departure from the Cameroonian setup therefore comes shortly before this new international adventure.

With Haiti, he will work in particular with Jonah Mednard, Josué Duverger and Alexandre Pierre. The objective will be to continue their preparation and development under the direction of David Badia.

A career shaped by major events

Before moving to the other side of the touchline, Kameni built a long career as a goalkeeper. He won the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games with Cameroon, then the Africa Cup of Nations in 2002.

At club level, his career was notably shaped by several seasons in Spain. He represented Espanyol Barcelona, with whom he won the Copa del Rey in 2006, before joining Málaga. He also played for Fenerbahçe in Turkey after his years in Spain.

That experience now represents the main foundation of his new role. Kameni will have to pass it on to a new generation of Haitian goalkeepers.

Haiti preparing for two matches in Jamaica

His arrival comes as the Grenadiers prepare to launch their campaign in the Concacaf Nations League. Haiti will face Trinidad and Tobago on September 24, then Costa Rica three days later, on September 27. Both matches are scheduled to take place at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

These two matches will be David Badia’s first games in charge of the national team during this new phase. The Spanish coach, officially presented by the Haitian Football Federation at the beginning of the month, has taken up his duties with the ambition of establishing a playing identity and continuing the Grenadiers’ progress.

Kameni is therefore joining a staff that is still taking shape. For the former Cameroonian goalkeeper, this appointment represents a new step in his transition to coaching, this time away from the Indomitable Lions and within the Haitian national team.
