After an entertaining encounter, Galatasaray got the better of Lille (2-4) on Wednesday evening in the third round of the Champions League.

It took the Turks just 65 seconds to open the scoring. Akgün, alert after good work from Yilmaz and a failed clearance by Alexsandro, gave Özer no chance (0-1, 1st). The Brazilian defender made amends immediately. Carrying the ball forward, he pierced the midfield before finding Diaoune, who had made a run in behind and finished with great composure (1-1, 7th). In the process, he became the youngest scorer in the competition for LOSC.

He even scored twice after Bakwa's initial shot was parried by Çakir (2-1, 39th). Lille's defence then began to leak goals on the night, conceding a second time after Verdonk missed his intervention on Sallai. Completely unmarked, Batrakov only had to direct his header into the net (2-2, 44th).

Just minutes after the restart, Torreira took advantage of another defensive lapse to restore the Turks' lead from a corner (2-3, 52nd). In the following move, Galatasaray won the ball in front of the penalty area and enabled Osimhen to score against his former team (2-4, 61st). In barely ten minutes, the northern club had lost all hope. Victory for the Turks.

A special match for Osimhen

Having scored against his former club that evening, Victor Osimhen (27, two appearances and one goal in the Champions League this season) did not celebrate his goal. The Galatasaray striker has too much respect for his former club, whom he greeted after the match.

"It was a special match. I love this club and the supporters very much. I have kept good memories of my time here, even though it was short. It is good to come back here, the atmosphere is incredible and the welcome I received was very touching. I am happy that my team won, but I wish Lille all the best," the former Lille player told Canal+.
