CHAN 2025 (Q): Gabon secures a valuable draw in Senegal

Gabon secured an encouraging result against Gambia in the first round of the 2025 African Nations Championship, CHAN qualifiers. This draw keeps them in the race for a showdown with Algeria in the second round.

On Friday, the Stade Lat Dior in Thiès, Senegal, hosted the clash between the "Panthers" and the "Scorpions." Despite attempts from both sides, neither team managed to make the difference, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Gabon in a favorable position

This result, although goalless away from home, puts Gabon in a favorable position ahead of the return leg scheduled for March 8 at home. A victory would earn them a ticket to face Algeria in May, the latter being exempt from the first round as the finalist of CHAN 2023.

It should be noted that the weekend will also feature other matches, notably Comoros-Malawi and a promising duel between South Africa and Egypt. The winners of these clashes will advance to the second round, scheduled for May, hoping to join Group C of the CHAN finals alongside Uganda, Niger, and Guinea.
