CHAN 2025: Gambia and Malawi Advance to the Next Round
The qualifiers for the African Nations Championship, CHAN 2025, are progressing rapidly, and two new nations have secured their spots for the next round this Saturday, March 8: Gambia and Malawi.
After a 2-0 victory away last week, Malawi repeated the performance against Comoros, winning by the same score.
With a 4-0 aggregate over the two matches, the Flames A’ smoothly advance to the second round. They will face the winner of the clash between Egypt and South Africa, whose first leg ended in a draw (1-1).
Gambia Triumphs in a Nail-biter
Meanwhile, Gambia had to fight hard to eliminate Gabon. After a goalless first match on February 28, the return leg in Franceville ended with the same score (0-0).
The qualification was decided by penalty shootout, where the Scorpions A’ made the difference by winning 5-4. They will face Algeria in the next round, with the Fennecs A’ having been exempted from this first round as the finalists of the last edition.
It is worth noting that the second round will take place from May 2 to 4 for the first leg and from May 9 to 11 for the return leg, with two spots at stake for the final phase, where 17 teams, including Uganda, Niger, and Guinea, are already qualified.
