Portugal: Gonçalo Ramos, the new striker of reference?
Gonçalo Ramos is making the most of the new attacking hierarchy of Portugal. The striker continues to deliver decisive performances with the Seleção and is gradually establishing himself as a major option in the number 9 position.
Ramos found the net again against Norway. This goal takes his tally to three goals in his last three international appearances, in addition to an assist.
The Portuguese striker had already scored against Norway before doing so again against Denmark, a match in which he also provided an assist. He then scored another goal in the return match against Norway.
This run comes as Jorge Jesus gives him an important role in his attacking system. Deployed as a number 9, Ramos regularly makes himself available in the box and is becoming more involved in finishing positions.

At 25, the Portuguese striker now has an opportunity to establish himself permanently in the Seleção’s attacking hierarchy. Above all, his recent performances have strengthened his position in an area set to evolve with the team’s gradual renewal.
Ramos does not yet have the status of Cristiano Ronaldo, a historic figure in Portuguese football’s attack. But his latest outings provide a concrete response to Jorge Jesus’s choices: three goals, one assist and a regular presence in the final third. He will now need to maintain this efficiency to establish himself permanently as Portugal’s striker of reference.
