Chelsea are pushing ahead with their plans to overhaul the backline, and a major reinforcement appears to be within reach. The Blues are now on the verge of securing a deal for Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, with negotiations reportedly progressing rapidly.

Journalist Alex Crook has indicated that the two Premier League sides are deep in discussions, and the involvement of Palace chairman Steve Parish in the talks highlights just how significant this potential transfer is for all parties concerned.

The financial package being discussed is said to be substantial, with the overall value of the agreement surpassing the £52 million mark. Should the transfer be finalized, Lacroix would rank among Chelsea's most costly acquisitions of the current window, and he is widely expected to provide a timely boost to the squad's defensive options as the new campaign approaches.

The French defender currently holds a market valuation of €50 million according to Transfermarkt, and his existing contract at Selhurst Park runs until the summer of 2029.
