Croatia: Luka Modric expresses his shame after England
On Saturday evening, Croatia were comprehensively beaten at home by England (0-7) in the Nations League. A defeat that was too heavy for Luka Modric.
Yesterday, Croatia suffered the heaviest defeat in their history. It was a humiliating moment that will remain etched in the minds of captain Luka Modric (41 years old, 205 caps and 30 goals).

"It is difficult to find an explanation after a match like this, without duels, without fouls, without aggression or unity. I have been with the national team for 20 years, but this is the first time I have felt ashamed after a match. We can lose because at the moment they are better than us. But losing like this and ruining the reputation we have built over the years is unacceptable. I am truly ashamed. We cannot play football like this. It felt as though we had four or five fewer players. It was a catastrophic evening. (…) Today, we would even have lost to a third-division team," declared the AC Milan midfielder.
Luka Modric is therefore calling for a change in attitude ahead of Tuesday’s match against Spain.
