DRC: Véron Mosengo-Omba elected president of FECOFA

A new era dawns for Congolese football. Véron Mosengo-Omba was elected this Wednesday as the head of the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association during the elective General Assembly held at the Pullman Kinshasa Grand Hotel, in the Gombe district.

The sole candidate remaining after a series of twists and turns in the electoral process, the former Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football swept the vote with 60 out of 65 ballots cast in his favor, with 3 votes against and 2 invalid ballots. He succeeds Constant Omari after several years of transitional leadership under CONOR.

Originally from Yolo, Véron Mosengo-Omba will lead Congolese football for a four-year term. During his campaign, he pledged a thorough overhaul of the national football administration, making the development of sports infrastructure, strengthening partnerships with clubs, and increased financial support from CAF, FIFA, and the Congolese government his top priorities.

"With my committee, we will organize ourselves to ensure the development of Congolese football," declared the new president following his victory.

All eyes now turn to FIFA, an institution the new president knows inside out, having worked there for many years.
