Egypt: Rulani Mokwena appointed head coach of Pyramids FC

Rulani Mokwena is set to continue his managerial career at the helm of Pyramids FC. According to multiple reliable sources, the 39-year-old South African coach has reached an agreement with the Egyptian club, which is expected to officially announce his appointment in the coming hours.

Mokwena succeeds Serbian coach Krunoslav Jurčić, who led Pyramids FC to the 2025 CAF Champions League title, and will be tasked with keeping the club at the pinnacle of both Egyptian and continental football.

A swift exit from Al Ittihad

This appointment comes just days after his decision to leave Al Ittihad Tripoli. The South African manager resigned, citing unfulfilled commitments from the club’s management regarding recruitment and the sporting project.

Before joining the Libyan side, Mokwena had left MC Alger, drawn by the ambitions outlined by Al Ittihad. However, none of the reinforcements he had requested were ultimately signed, pushing the coach to end his stint after just a few months.

A bold new challenge

Tracked by Pyramids FC for several years, Rulani Mokwena will now take charge of an ambitious squad, aiming to fight for the Egyptian Premier League title, conquer the CAF Champions League, and prepare the club for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.

The former coach of Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Wydad Casablanca, MC Alger, and Al Ittihad is also expected to assemble his own technical staff as he launches this new sporting project.
