Egypt’s oldest football club, El Sekka El Hadid, have completed an ambitious triple swoop for Brazilian forwards Vitao, Erick Silva and Joao Itchel in a determined bid to secure promotion to the Egyptian Premier League.

The Cairo based outfit, founded in 1903, secured the Brazilian trio on one year contracts following successful trials where all three players featured in two pre season friendly fixtures.

The unusual recruitment strategy by an Egyptian second tier club attracted international attention, with renowned sports journalist Ben Jacobs sharing an image of the three players alongside former international referee Ibrahim Nour El-Din who currently oversees the football sector on behalf of the club’s board of directors.

The announcement garnered over 190,000 views on X within hours.

The high profile recruitment drive follows a turbulent period off the pitch for El Sekka El Hadid. Former Al Ahly player Rabie Yassin stepped down from his managerial post at the club in July following disagreements with the board.
