England: major concerns over Saka and Rashford ahead of Ghana showdown

Just days before the decisive World Cup 2026 clash between England and Ghana, the news coming out of the England camp is far from reassuring for head coach Thomas Tuchel. The Three Lions are closely monitoring the fitness of two of their biggest attacking weapons: Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford. Several British outlets are reporting that their availability for the Boston fixture is anything but certain.

In England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia to kick off their campaign, Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford made a significant impact. Both came off the bench and combined for England’s fourth goal, with the Arsenal star setting up his teammate for a clinical finish. The duo nearly linked up again minutes later, but Rashford squandered another opportunity created by Saka.

Saka still troubled by Achilles tendon

Saka’s situation is a particular worry for the England staff. The winger continues to manage an Achilles tendon issue that has plagued him for several months. Tuchel recently hinted that it’s unlikely Saka will start against Ghana, even though his condition is gradually improving. The priority is to take no risks with one of the squad’s brightest stars.

Rashford also under close watch

Things aren’t looking much better for Rashford. The forward reportedly experienced some hamstring discomfort following the Croatia match. According to multiple sources, he’s currently under close supervision from the medical team and his involvement against the Black Stars remains up in the air.

The England versus Ghana match is shaping up to be decisive in Group L. Both teams won their opening games, and another victory would all but guarantee a spot in the knockout stage. Missing both Saka and Rashford would be a major blow to England’s ambitions, especially against a Ghanaian side that already impressed with their win over Panama.
