FC Barcelona: Hansi Flick explains Marcus Rashford's departure

Unfortunately, Marcus Rashford will not be continuing his adventure at FC Barcelona after his loan spell. The English striker has already left Catalonia following a particularly impressive stint. Hansi Flick has spoken about his departure.

At the end of last season, Marcus Rashford finished as a Spanish champion with FC Barcelona. The Englishman also delivered an outstanding individual campaign, netting 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 26 starts. Rashford managed to win the trust of the Barcelona coaching staff and played a major role in Barça’s performances.

But despite his impact, Barça ultimately decided not to trigger the option to keep the England international. The Spanish club chose instead to bet on other attacking options such as Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. A few days ago, Rashford confirmed his departure with a message on Instagram, in which he thanked Barça for this chapter.

Days later, Hansi Flick addressed the striker’s situation after the 2-2 friendly draw against Birmingham. "Sometimes, you don’t always know what happens with players out on loan. Our situation isn’t easy either, but I really enjoyed working with him—he’s a fantastic player, a fantastic person." the coach explained.

Hansi Flick admitted that he wasn’t against keeping the Manchester United forward, and that all of Barça would miss him: "I think the team will miss him too—I’ll miss him, but that’s football."
