FC Barcelona: Hansi Flick makes a demand to his management
Beyond his footballing qualities, Rodri represents for Hansi Flick a true role model capable of taking charge of Barça's new dressing room.
Hansi Flick isn't just looking to strengthen his squad on the pitch. According to SPORT, the FC Barcelona coach has asked the board to sign experienced players who can mentor a particularly young group. The departures of Ronald Araujo and Robert Lewandowski have left the dressing room without two key figures. Wojciech Szczesny would now be the only player over 30 years old.

Rodri personally contacted by Flick
This explains the German manager’s persistence regarding the signing of Rodri. Flick is said to have personally called the Manchester City midfielder to present his project and the central role he envisions for him. The arrival of the Spaniard would not only address a tactical need created by Frenkie de Jong's injury.
A winner to guide the youth
2026 World Cup champion, 2024 European champion, Champions League winner, and four-time Premier League champion—Rodri fits the bill perfectly. His ability to step up in big moments, his professionalism, and his daily standards could set the tone for Barcelona's young talents. At 30, he would be expected to become one of Flick's main lieutenants, both on the pitch and in the locker room.
The internal hierarchy is also set to shift. Raphinha is tipped to become the first captain ahead of Pedri, while Gavi and Eric Garcia could be handed greater responsibilities. However, Rodri’s arrival would instantly give Barça a leader who commands respect. The transfer remains complicated: the Cityzens are refusing to lower their demands and are reportedly asking for between 70 and 80 million euros for a player under contract until June 2027.
