FC Barcelona: Thibaut Courtois takes aim at Rodri

After Real Madrid’s hard-fought victory over Espanyol (1-2) on Saturday night, Thibaut Courtois took a swipe at the 2026 World Cup’s best player, Rodri.

The Belgian international goalkeeper stopped in the mixed zone on Saturday night to answer various questions about Real Madrid news. The former Chelsea shot-stopper was asked about Rodri’s decision to join FC Barcelona, despite being heavily linked with a move to Madrid. This transfer clearly didn’t go unnoticed by Thibaut Courtois, especially since the Spanish midfielder and João Cancelo reportedly stayed briefly at the same hotel as the Merengues, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Courtois didn’t dodge the question and delivered a particularly sharp response regarding the Spaniard: “Every player chooses where he wants to be. If he didn’t want to be with us, that’s a shame for him. In the end, he’s a great player, but he made his choice and that’s that. Was he in our hotel? Well, he’s a grown man, there must be a lot of people there too, and that’s it.”
