In recent days, Gianni Infantino has watched as many of his supporters have distanced themselves from him. This comes in the wake of the controversy surrounding his proposal to privatize the World Cup—a move that proved to be the last straw for several football federations.

With just months to go before the presidential election in March 2027, the head of world football is now scrambling to shore up his backing in hopes of securing re-election.

According to reports from The Times, Infantino has reached out to Morocco in the past few hours. The Kingdom, a major influencer on the African continent, could provide Infantino with crucial public support in the upcoming vote. In exchange for this public backing, the FIFA president is offering Morocco the right to host the final of the 2030 World Cup—a dream the North African nation has set its sights on for its upcoming grand stadium in Casablanca.

For the record, Morocco is in direct competition with Madrid and the new Santiago Bernabéu to host the most prestigious fixture of the tournament.

Explosive allegations from the Middle East against Gianni Infantino

Even as the FIFA president tries to consolidate his power base in Rabat, he now faces explosive allegations coming from the Middle East. Prince Ali bin Hussein, president of the Jordan Football Association, has accused Gianni Infantino of resorting to blackmail to win political support.

In a detailed statement on the situation, Hussein said: "For months, FIFA refused to help us... until I was verbally told during the World Cup that if I supported Infantino, it would go a long way to helping our federation. In Jordan, we are proud to stand up for ethical values. We have not supported him in the past and we certainly will not now. But this whole situation amounts to blackmail, and we refuse to give in."
