France team: Zinédine Zidane chooses his vice-captains

Under Zinédine Zidane, Kylian Mbappé remains captain of Les Bleus. In recent hours, the France coach has named the vice-captains.

While there was no doubt about the identity of the captain of Les Bleus, the names of Kylian Mbappé’s lieutenants still had to be confirmed. According to information from L’Équipe, there are three of them. Zinédine Zidane chose Ousmane Dembélé (67 caps, 13 goals) as his first vice-captain. This is therefore a new role for the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, who had not held this position under Didier Deschamps.

Adrien Rabiot (66 caps, 7 goals) is second. Jules Koundé (56 caps) completes the quartet, having already been one of Didier Deschamps’ vice-captains. According to RMC Sport, this choice follows a seniority-based logic, similar to what can be seen in Spain.

As a reminder, Les Bleus will play four Nations League matches during this international break: against Türkiye this Friday, against Belgium on September 28 and October 5, and against Italy on October 2.
