Frank Onyeka signs permanently with Coventry City

Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka is now officially a Coventry City player. After an impressive loan spell from Brentford FC in the second half of the season, the 28-year-old has signed a permanent deal with the newly promoted Premier League club.

Frank Onyeka's loan has now become a permanent transfer—he now belongs to Coventry. Having joined the Championship winners during the winter transfer window, the Nigerian international initially signed with the Sky Blues until the end of the season. His loan contract included a clause obligating the club to trigger a purchase option in the event of promotion to the Premier League. That goal has been achieved, as Frank Lampard's men secured promotion, automatically activating the permanent transfer for the Nigerian midfielder.

With 43 caps for Nigeria, Onyeka made 14 appearances for Coventry, starting 13 of those matches. He also scored a crucial goal in the 3-2 victory over Derby County FC in April.

Excited to continue the journey, Onyeka shared his ambitions:

"I am really looking forward to starting the new season with Coventry. When I joined the team last season, I had two goals: to win the Championship and help Coventry reach the Premier League. I am very happy to be back in the Premier League with Coventry. I will give everything for the team, fight for every ball, for my teammates, and bring all my experience. My ambition now is to help the club stay in the Premier League and finish as high as possible in the table."

Returning to the English top flight after a 25-year absence, Coventry will kick off the 2026-2027 season with an away match at Arsenal FC.

The Sky Blues will then host Hull City AFC in their first home match, before meeting Brentford on December 30 at the CBS Arena, where Onyeka will face his former club for the first time.
