French league: Malang Sarr leaves Lens
As expected, Malang Sarr is leaving Lens. The club announced his departure effective June 30, 2026. The 27-year-old French-Senegalese defender did not renew his contract and is now a free agent, just two years after his arrival.
The northern club confirmed on Tuesday, June 30: "The 27-year-old defender is leaving the Blood and Gold." Malang Sarr departs after winning the 2025–2026 Coupe de France.
Sarr joined for free in 2024, looking for a fresh start after tough spells at Porto, Chelsea, and Monaco. He made 61 appearances over two seasons, establishing himself as one of the top defenders in the French league. Lens offered him a contract extension, but the player declined, seeking a new challenge elsewhere.
A product of Nice, the former Lens defender now leaves northern France with a trophy and significant playing time under his belt: 29 matches in all competitions last season. At 27, the central defender is now available on the transfer market.
