This Sunday, Liverpool and AS Monaco continued their summer preparations at Anfield. The Reds fell to the French side.

After two wins in their first three friendly matches, Liverpool were looking to build confidence this Sunday. Early on, Andoni Iraola’s men grabbed control of the game. Despite an initial scare from Biereth in the very first minute, Liverpool created multiple chances in front of Hradecky’s goal.

After Wirtz’s first big chance (7’), Isak broke the deadlock with a superb turn in the box before beating the Monaco keeper with a low drive (1-0, 16’). Dominant, the Reds doubled their lead through Wirtz, who pounced on a headed assist from Gakpo (2-0, 29’).

Struggling, Monaco managed to find hope just before the break: Golovin won a penalty against Van Dijk and coolly converted it himself (2-1, 44’). That goal completely reignited the Monegasques after halftime. With a higher defensive line and much more aggressive pressing, ASM gradually turned the tide. Their efforts paid off just before the hour mark when Teze won his duel on the right flank and set up Biereth. After his first shot was parried by Mamardashvili, the Danish striker pounced on the rebound to level with a crisp finish (2-2, 56’).

A flurry of substitutions by Liverpool, notably the exits of Van Dijk, Gakpo, Isak, and Wirtz, further shifted the balance. Youngster Brunner sealed a famous win for AS Monaco with a header (3-2, 88’).
