Germany: Joshua Kimmich still regrets the 2026 World Cup

This summer, Germany left the 2026 World Cup early after being eliminated in the round of 16. Joshua Kimmich looked back on this disappointing campaign in the United States.

Germany were eliminated in the group stage at the 2018 and 2022 editions of the World Cup. The German team suffered another disappointment at the last World Cup, being eliminated in the round of 16 by Paraguay (1-1, 3-4 on penalties). Joshua Kimmich (31 years old, 114 caps and 10 goals) is still struggling to come to terms with the elimination.

"For me, it was the most difficult elimination. It was the third time it had happened to me, but this time in a different role, which hurt me even more. I needed time to process it all and take a step back. In hindsight, these three World Cup eliminations are part of my career. We cannot erase them, but we can make sure that things turn out differently in the future. That is what I am focusing my energy and attention on. We will do everything in our power to bring joy back to the people," said the Bayern midfielder in an interview with RTL and Sky Germany.
