Between Bayern's monitoring and Klopp's call up.. Wael Mohya sparks giants' conflict and steals the spotlight in Germany

Bayern Munich have officially acknowledged their interest in Wael Mohya, the highly rated Borussia Monchengladbach attacking midfielder of Moroccan descent but insist that no discussions have taken place over a potential transfer.

Speaking to Sky Sport Germany on Saturday 7 November 2026, Bayern's sporting board member Max Eberl confirmed that the Bundesliga champions are monitoring the teenager's development.

"Bayern keeps an eye on every young German talent. We are monitoring the boy" Eberl explained.

However, he immediately played down suggestions that Bayern were already preparing a move.

"We haven't spoken a single word to the player, his agency or Borussia Mönchengladbach" he added.

The comments confirm Bayern's interest while making clear that the situation has not progressed to formal negotiations.

Why Bayern Munich are tracking Wael Mohya

Mohya has emerged as one of the Bundesliga's most promising young talents following his breakthrough at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The 17 year old has registered two goals and one assist in nine Bundesliga appearances this season, attracting attention with his creativity and technical ability.

His connection with Bayern is particularly interesting, Mohya scored his first Bundesliga goal against the Bavarian giants in March 2026, becoming the youngest goalscorer in Mönchengladbach's history.

According to Sky Sport, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are also monitoring his progress.

Mohya remains under contract until June 2028, with Gladbach reportedly working on an improved deal that could include a release clause.

A January departure is considered unlikely, although his situation could be reassessed next summer.

Morocco or Germany? Mohya's international future attracts attention

Bayern's confirmation comes just days after Mohya received his first senior Germany call up from Jurgen Klopp.

Born in Germany to Moroccan parents, the attacking midfielder is eligible to represent either country internationally.

As Foot Africa previously reported, Morocco had been closely following his development before Klopp included him in Germany's squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Serbia and the Netherlands.

His situation echoes that of Younes Ebnoutalib, another German-Moroccan talent who attracted interest from both national teams.

However, Mohya's first senior call up does not automatically settle his international future, as he has yet to make his senior Germany debut.

For now, the teenager faces two significant developments in his young career, an opportunity to establish himself internationally and growing interest from Germany's biggest clubs.
