Premier League: Liverpool beat Crystal Palace
Liverpool claimed an important 3-1 away win over Crystal Palace on Sunday in the 10th round of the Premier League. After a closely contested first half, Andoni Iraola’s men made the difference through Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Eddie Nketiah pulled one back from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Mac Allister opens the scoring before the break
Both teams spent much of a balanced first half looking for a breakthrough. Liverpool eventually found one in the 40th minute through Alexis Mac Allister, giving the visitors a one-goal lead at the break. Crystal Palace, managed by Pierre Sage, tried to respond after half-time, but the Reds quickly extended their advantage.
In the 54th minute, Florian Wirtz scored Liverpool’s second, putting his team in a strong position. The Eagles then stepped up their efforts to get back into the match but were unable to convert their chances.
In the 89th minute, Alexander Isak made it 3-0 and seemed to have settled the contest for good.
Crystal Palace did, however, restore some pride in stoppage time. Introduced in the 71st minute, Eddie Nketiah converted a penalty in the 90th minute to make it 3-1.
Liverpool hold firm despite Palace pressure
The statistics reflect a closely contested match. Crystal Palace enjoyed slightly more possession, with 53% of the ball, and completed 411 passes compared with Liverpool’s 353. The hosts also had seven shots on target, while the Reds recorded eight.
But Liverpool proved more clinical at key moments. Despite Palace’s late response, Andoni Iraola’s men held on to their lead until the final whistle. With this 3-1 win at Selhurst Park, Liverpool therefore leave with all three points after a match in which their attacking efficiency made the difference.
