The Flamingos defeated Japan 2-1 in Saturday's final to become the first African nation to win the tournament.

Their achievement also mirrors the success of Nigeria's male U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, who defeated Japan in the 1993 final to claim their second FIFA U-17 World Cup title.

A landmark moment for African women's football

The Flamingos' victory represents a breakthrough for Nigerian women's football and the continent as a whole.

Their success in Morocco has strengthened Nigeria's reputation in youth football and delivered a historic first for Africa in the women's competition.
